The Senate has stepped down further consideration on the report on “A bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps to empower, develop and provide gainful employment for the youths, to facilitate peace, volunteerism, community services, nation building and for other related matters“.
The Senate observed that the report which was presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Interior, Sen. Usman Bayero Nafada (APC: Gombe) and considered during its plenary session of Thursday, March 16th 2017, contained conflicting recommendations thereby compelling the Chamber to halt further deliberations until the Committee on Interior has addressed these observations. For instance, the Senate Committee in its report had recommended that a summarized version for the functions of the Peace Corps be adopted, whereas the House of Representatives in its report had adopted a more elaborate and detailed version. However, the Senate, who had deferred consideration of this report earlier in the month failed to provide a time frame for the Committee to report a revised “clean copy”
