President Submits Names of Ministerial Nominees, Presents Business Facilitation Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 2022 to the Senate

President Muhammadu Buhari has submitted the names of nominees for appointment as Ministers of the Federal Republic Nigeria for screening and confirmation by the Senate as well as the Business Facilitation Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 2022

In a letter dated 15 June 2022 read by the President of the Senate, Sen. Ahmad Lawan (APC: Yobe) at the plenary session of Tuesday, 21 June 2022, President Buhari informed the Senate that the request for the confirmation of nominees for appointment as Ministers was in line with the provisions of section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution which provides that:

“Any appointment to the Office of the Minister of the Government of the Federation shall, if nominated of any person to such office is confirmed by the Senate, be made by the President”

In his letter, President Buhari requested the confirmation of the under-listed persons as Ministers.

  • Umana Okon Umana- Akwa Ibom State
  • Ekumankama Joseph Nkama- Ebonyi State
  • Goodluck Nanah Opiah- Imo State
  • Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub- Kano State
  • Ademola Adewole Adegoroye- Ondo State
  • Odum Udi- Rivers State

Following the request of President Buhari on the confirmation, Sen. Lawan announced that the Senate will commence the screening and confirmation exercise of these nominees at the plenary session of Wednesday, 29 June 2022.

On the Business Facilitation Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 2022, President Buhari had written to the Senate and House of Representatives requesting the consideration and passage of the said Bill. In his letter dated 17 June 2022, the President stated that the Bill seeks to promote the ease of doing business in Nigeria by amending relevant legislation.

The Bill was presented for First Reading at the sitting of the Senate and House of Representatives on Wednesday, 22 June 2022.
