Technical Sessions to Discuss and Develop Legislative Proposal on Temporary Special Measures to Improve Women’s Political Representation

Technical Session

Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) with support from the German Federal Foreign Office (ifa-zivik), supported two working sessions to discuss and develop legislative proposals on Temporary Special Measures (TSMs) in order to promote the political representation of women in Federal and State Legislative Houses in Nigeria.

The first session which held on Wednesday, 24 March 2021, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, was a small meeting of experts to discuss and develop practicable and feasible proposals to increase the number of women in National and State Assemblies, and which can feed into Nigeria’s constitution review process and form the basis for advocacy.

The second session which held on Thursday, 8 and Friday, 9 April 2021, at Ibeto Hotel, Abuja, supported a retreat of legal drafters and the secretariat of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, to review bills and memos received by the committee on gender issues particularly on women’s political participation. They were also charged with developing draft bills from the proposals that can form the basis for deliberation by the committee.
