PLAC organised a retreat for the House of Representatives Committee on Army from 13 to 14 December 2019 in Lagos. The aim of the meeting was to enhance the knowledge and capacity of members of the Committee on Army, to enable them better conduct effective oversight of the Nigerian Army, especially in the light of the recurring involvement of the Army involvement in internal security operations. Participants included members of the Committee on Army, including the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Committee, namely, Hon. Abubakar Namdas and Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye. Resource persons included two retired military officers who made presentations on a number of topics focusing on the democratic control of the Armed Forces, domestic and sub-regional partnerships and budgeting for the Army over the two-day period, including the Head of the Peace and Security Programme of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Accra Ghana. An outcome from the meeting was the development of an action plan for the Committee for 2020 and the set up of a sub-committee to carry out this task.
