The inaugural bi-weekly session for the 2024 PLAC legislative interns was held at the PLAC office, serving as a key part of the Legislative Internship Programme. These sessions aim to enhance interns’ experiences by developing both technical and soft skills, fostering personal growth, and preparing them for future careers.
Executive Director PLACNG Clement Nwankwo welcomed the interns and encouraged them to report any challenges faced during their first two weeks at National Assembly for timely support.
Dr. Benjamin Ekeyi presented on “Budgeting and Finance in Parliament: The Role of NASS in Fiscal Oversight,” discussing budget components, stakeholders, and challenges in Nigeria’s budgeting process, along with recommendations.
Dr. Rahila Ahmadu, former Director of NSNL, guided interns through the “Understanding the Bills and Law-making Process,” emphasizing the complexity and collaborative nature of lawmaking.
The session concluded with a presentation on safeguarding policy by Omolara Akinyeye, Deputy Executive Director, PLACNG.
