Earlier today, the 2026 PLAC Legislative Internship Programme (LIP) cohort visited the European Union Delegation in Nigeria, where the interns participated in an engaging dialogue on Nigeria’s democratic development and the country’s partnership with the European Union.

A key highlight of the visit was an interactive session with EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot, who shared insights into the EU–Nigeria partnership, with discussions spanning democratic governance, youth inclusion, humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.

The Ambassador provided perspectives on the role of the European Union in supporting Nigeria’s development priorities and strengthening cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest.

Engaging in Meaningful Dialogue

The interns actively participated in the discussion, asking questions on a broad range of issues relevant to Nigeria’s development and its relationship with the European Union.

Their questions covered areas including trade and investment, women’s political participation, healthcare financing and opportunities for young people.

The exchange provided the interns with an opportunity to gain firsthand perspectives on international development cooperation and the role of diplomatic institutions in supporting democratic governance and inclusive development.

The visit forms part of the broader learning experience of the 2026 PLAC Legislative Internship Programme, exposing participants to key institutions and stakeholders while deepening their understanding of governance, democracy, public policy and international relations.

The engagement at the EU Delegation further enriched the interns’ experience, providing valuable insights that complement their legislative training and practical exposure throughout the programme.
