On Friday, 13 November 2025, participants of the 2025 cohort of the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) Legislative Internship Programme, supported by the European Union, gathered at the PLAC office in Guzape, Abuja for another impactful bi-weekly session.

This third meeting delivered a rich mix of media insight, legislative knowledge, and practical simulation giving interns a deeper, real-world perspective on governance in Nigeria.

Summary of Activities

9:00 am – 10:00 am: Arrival, registration & submission of timesheets (with tea/coffee to get everyone settled)

9:50 am – 10:00 am: Warm welcome by Executive Director, Clement Nwankwo

10:00 am – 11:00 am: Seun Okinbaloye (Host, Politics Today & Sunday Politics, Channels TV) delivered a powerful session on “How Headlines, Stories, and Conversations Shape Our Democracy” — unpacking the influence of media on public opinion and governance.

11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Mohammed Amali (Senior Research Fellow, NILDS) walked participants through “Understanding How Laws are Drafted, Debated and Passed” — breaking down the legislative process into practical, digestible steps.

12:00 pm – 1:20 pm: A hands-on plenary simulation session led by Salisu Abdullahi Mohammed (Clerk, House of Representatives Committee on Rules and Business), giving interns a real feel of how proceedings unfold in the House.

1:20 pm – 1:30 pm: Wrap-up and closing remarks by Programme Manager, Nkiru Uzodi

From media influence to legislative drafting and a live plenary simulation, this session struck the perfect balance between theory, practice, and real-world application.

Another solid step in preparing these interns for meaningful engagement within Nigeria’s legislative space and beyond.
