The second bi-weekly meeting for the 2024 PLAC Legislative Interns took place on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the PLAC Office in Abuja, with participation from members of the PLAC team. During this meeting, Ms. Nkiru Uzodi, Programme Manager for Legislative and Gender Issues at the Policy and Legal Centre, PLAC, delivered the welcome address. The session featured presentations from distinguished resource persons, including Dr. Shuaibu Danwanka, Director of Legal Services at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, who discussed the topic “Understanding NASS Legislative Oversight Function, Tools and Mechanisms.” Additionally, Mrs. Agianpe Onyema, Lead Consultant at Solutions for Development Ltd, presented a paper titled “Contesting Elections with Good Sportsmanship: Fostering a Culture of Integrity and Respect in Electoral Processes.” This presentation aimed to promote respectful and constructive behavior during elections, which is essential for nurturing robust and peaceful democratic societies.

The meeting concluded with the interns electing principal members for the 2024 Model Legislative Assembly (MLA). The following interns were elected as principal officers:

6. Deputy Minority Leader – Oluwa Esther Mosunmola (Lagos state)
7. Chief Whip – Fawaz Mayowa Alli (Oyo state)
8. Deputy Chief Whip – Edu-Uwem Etim (Akwa-Ibom state)
9. Minority Whip – Yuahanezu Jafar-Jubril (FCT)
10. Deputy Minority Whip – Titus Bulus Ishaku (Nasarawa state)
11. Clerk – Aisha Mai-Bornu (Adamawa state)
12. Sergeant-At-Arms – David Eneji (PWD)
