The House of Representatives at its plenary session of Thursday, 18th July 2019 approved the (15) Special Advisers, nominated by President Buhari, to assist him in carrying out his functions. The move was made in line with section 151 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Which grants the President, power to appoint Special Advisers.
Presenting the motion, Hon. Garba Alhassan Ado (APC: Kano) recalled that
the President had in a letter addressed to the House of Representatives on 9 July, 2019 requested its approval to appoint fifteen (15) Special Advisers to assist him. He stated that Section 151 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) empowers the National Assembly to prescribe (by law or resolution), the number of the President’s Advisers, their remuneration and allowances. In addition, Hon. Ado, pointed that the requirement in section 151(2) had been met as section 2, Part 1 (B) of the Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2008 prescribes the remuneration and allowances of Special Advisers.
The House will transmit its Approval of the Nominees to the Senate for concurrence.
