House Suspends Legislative Activities and Engagements of its Standing and Ad-hoc Committees

The House of Representatives has suspended the conduct of all legislative activities and engagements of its Standing and Ad-hoc Committees.

In a letter dated 19th August 2020, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa (APC: Kano) directed the Chairmen of the Standing and Ad-hoc Committees to immediately suspend all Committee meetings, public hearings and other engagements until the resumption of plenary session from its annual recess. According to him, the decision to put a hold on all legislative activities of the Committees follows from a resolution adopted by the leadership of the House of Representatives.

Although the reason for the immediate suspension of all legislative activities of Committees were not stated, Hon. Ado Doguwa in his letter, had directed the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr. Patrick Giwa to ensure that all Committee Clerks and other relevant Staff strictly adhere to the notice.

The House of Representatives which commenced its annual recess on Thursday, 23 July 2020 is expected to resume plenary on Tuesday, 15 September 2020.
