The Senate has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) to remit revenues that accrued upon lifting of Crude oil from 2013 to date to the Federation Account. Moving a motion titled ‘‘the unlawful and willful misappropriation and criminal withholding of public revenue by the NPDC from 2013 to date’’ on Tuesday 13th December 2016, Sen. Dino Melaye (APC:Kogi) expressed concerns that the NPDC had lifted crude oil from 3 oil wells worth over $3.487 billion in 2013.
In addition he noted that from January – August 2016, a total of $344.442 million worth of oil had been lifted by the NPDC without remittance to the Federation Account and without the payment of royalties and other taxes. He further mentioned that the manner in which both agencies of government were carrying out crude oil lifting lacked transparency and called on the senate to mandate its committees on Petroleum Upstream and Finance to investigate holistically the level of corruption in the Corporation with a view to recovering every fund due to the Federation Account.
The Senate also directed the NNPC to forward to the National Assembly its yearly estimate for repairs and pipeline operations and maintenance for Appropriation.
