Senate Constitutes its Conference Committee on the Police Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2020

The President of the Senate, Sen. Ahmad Lawan (APC:Yobe) constituted the Conference Committee on the Police Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, passed by the Senate on Tuesday, 7 July 2020.

Presenting the names of lawmakers constituting the Conference Committee at the plenary session of Tuesday, 14 July 2020, Sen. Lawan noted that Members of the Senate Conference Committee are expected to liaise with the Members of the House of Representatives who will be selected by the Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to constitute the corresponding Committee in the House.

The Conference Committee of both Chambers will work together to identify and resolve differences in the Bill which has also been passed by the House of Representatives. The Senators serving as Conferees on the Police Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill are as follows:

  • Sen. Halliru Jika (APC: Bauchi) – Chairman
  • Sen. Ike Ekweremadu (PDP: Enugu)- Member
  • Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha (PDP:Taraba)- Member
  • Sen. Bello Mandiya (APC:Katsina)- Member
  • Sen. Patrick Akinyelure (APC: Ondo)- Member
  • Sen. Sandy Onor Ojang (PDP;Cross River)- Member
  • Sen. Hezekiah Dimka (APC: Plateau)
