Senate Confirms President Buhari’s 43 Ministerial Nominees

The Senate at its plenary session of Tuesday, 30 July 2019 confirmation of forty-three (43) persons nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for appointment as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This came as it concluded its screening exercise that commenced on Wednesday, 24 July 2019.

During the screening session which lasted for 5 days, lawmakers had recognized and acknowledged the performances of some nominees, who had served in various capacities as public office holders by according them the privilege of taking a bow without further screenings. Others were asked questions pertaining issues of insecurity across the country, policy reforms, administration of criminal justice, foreign policies and programmes. Lawmakers also sought their input on how they intended to develop critical sectors of the economy, such as the oil and gas sector, Nigeria’s educational systems, healthcare services, improve job creation, gender inclusion/women participation in governance.

The 43 nominees were drawn from each of the 36 States of the Federation with Anambra, Bauchi, Edo, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara and Lagos State having additional nominees representing the six geo-political zones. It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday, 23 July 2019 submitted a letter requesting Senate’s confirmation of the 43 nominees.
