The House of Representatives Committee on Treaties and Protocols has summoned the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; and the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed over existing Bilateral Loan Agreements between Nigeria and the Chinese Government.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai (PDP; Delta) at the resumption of the Committee’s briefing session on Wednesday, 19 August 2020 explained that the decision to invite the Ministers was based on the need to review the implementation plan of the Federal Government on all Agreements and existing loans to be sourced from the Chinese Export-Import Bank to finance railway projects across the country.
According to Hon. Ossai, the said Ministers are expected to appear before the Committee with their counterparts from the Ministries of Communication, Mr. Ali Pantami and Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi who had earlier appeared before the Committee for a briefing session on the subject matter.
The public hearing which commenced on Monday, 17 August 2020 has been adjourned to Tuesday, 25 August 2020, to enable the Ministers of Justice; and Finance, Budget and National Planning attend the session.
