The House has reconsidered and readopted the North East Development Commission Bill, which it had earlier passed sometime in January 2017. At it’s sitting on Wednesday 17 May 2017, seventeen (17) clauses of the bill (NEDC) were amended.
Although the National Assembly had passed the Bill on 12th January, the House later withdrew the Bill, which had been transmitted to the President after attention was drawn to some provisions in conflict with the Constitution. The House had also resolved to rescind its decisions on the Explanatory Memorandum; the arrangement of some sections in Part IV, the Long Title, sections 2,5,7,10,12,13,14,15,16,17,19,20,25 and 26 of the NEDC Bill. It then referred the Bill to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action on 10th May.
The seventeen clauses now amended were adopted from the Committee of the Whole’s observations and address issues that had earlier called for its withdrawal.
