The House at its plenary session of Tuesday, 24 July, 2018 Rescinded 14 Clauses of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018 Pursuant to Order 9 Rule 1(6) of the Standing Orders of the House. Presenting the motion on the floor of the House Hon. Orker- Jev Y.E (Benue) recalled that the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018 was passed by both Houses and that the Report of the Conference Committee that harmonized the areas of difference in the Bill was adopted on Thursday, 7 June, 2018.
He stated that the amendments were intended to strengthen the electoral process in Nigeria, more particularly the 2019 General Election and that in the cause of the final cleaning up of the Bill passed some provisions were found to negate the essence of the amendment.
Accordingly, he stated that the House resolved to rescind its decision on Clauses 3, 5, 8, 11(2), 13(b), 14 (4), 15(3), 18, 21, 23, 24, 28, 32 and 38 of the Bill as passed, The Bill was then recommitted to Committee of the whole for reconsideration after which its recommendations were adopted and it passed
