“A Bill for an Act to Establish the Civil Societies Regulatory Commission to strengthen their capacities, promote democracy and development in the Country and for other related matters” (HB:597) sponsored by Hon. Frederick Y. Agbedi (PDP: Bayelsa), has been indefinitely withdrawn by the House of Representatives.
The Bill which sought to coordinate and regulate the activities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) was read for the first time on Thursday, June 2nd 2016 and was scheduled for debate at the plenary session of Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017. However, on the slated date, Hon. Agbedi requested that the Bill be withdrawn indefinitely as soon as the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara (APC: Bauchi) called for him to move that the Bill be read a second time.
