The Bill titled ” A Bill for an Act to Regulate the Execution of Federal Government Projects by State Government, Provide for procedures to undertake such projects, financing, supervision/monitoring refund/reimbursement of Money spent thereto and for other related matters”- HB 548 passed second reading in the House of Representatives.
Leading the debate on the Bill, Hon. Rimamnde Kwekum (PDP: Taraba) sponsor of the Bill stated that it would provide a legal framework that would create transparency in the conceptualization, execution and payments for the implementation of projects belonging to the Federal Government but carried out by the States.
Hon. Kwekum expressed concern over the way the State Government had executed several projects across the country noting that it was made with inferior materials and often failed to meet mutually agreed standards. He stated that the Bill, if passed would address the incessant cases of failed or abandoned projects meant to improve the lives of citizens.
The Bill has been referred to the Committees on Finance and Public Procurement for further legislative input
