The third bi-weekly meeting for the 2024 PLAC Legislative Interns took place on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, at the PLAC Office in Abuja, with participation from members of the PLAC team and invited resource persons. Welcome Remarks was delivered by Mr. Kor Dwazua, Programme Officer at the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC).
The initial presentation at third biweekly meeting was by Mr. Achike Nwude, the National Secretary of Nigerian Union of Journalists. His discussion centered on “Writing and Storytelling in the Media.” He highlighted the significance of clarity, brevity, and engaging the audience as essential elements of effective writing. Through practical examples, he demonstrated how powerful narratives can render complex information more comprehensible.
The subsequent presentation was led by Barr. Nguliyan Wakombo from the Legislative Services Department at National Assembly focusing on the intricacies of bill drafting. She underscored the necessity of a thorough understanding of the legal framework and the specific issues addressed by the bill. Wakombo detailed the essential components of a bill, including the title, preamble, and clauses, while emphasizing the critical nature of clarity to prevent misinterpretation. Her presentation aims to provide interns with essential skills and insights into the legislative process, enhancing their understanding of the complexities involved in effective legislation.
