The Roundtable on Women Inclusion in Politics organized by Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) in collaboration with Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF), ElectHer and YIAGA Africa, with support from the European Union (EU) took place at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja on the 4th and 5th of March 2024.
The 2-day Advocacy and Women in Parliament Summit was a convening of Female Legislators from the National Assembly and the State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, Civil Society Organisations and other relevant stakeholders.
The event featured Welcome Remarks from Clement Nwankwo, Executive Director (PLAC), Goodwill Messages from Zissimos Vergus, Deputy Ambassador, European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Chair, Senate Committee on Women Affairs and Honourable Fatima Talba, Chair, House of Representatives Committee on Women in Parliament. Opening remarks were made by Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.
The keynote address was made by Hon. Julius Ihonvbere, Majority Leader, House of Representatives and was followed by a panel session which discussed the use of Temporary Special Measures, more specifically Reserved Seats or Constituencies to ensure more Women are elected into Legislative seats.
