PLAC and Office of the Senate President Sets Up a Technical Advisory Committee on the Police Bill

PLAC, in collaboration with the Office of the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki, set up a Technical Advisory Committee on the Police Bill. The objective of the Committee was to revise provisions of the Police Bill taking into consideration prior recommendations of several committees and reform panels on police reform. The Committee sat over a two- week period from 9 July to 23 July 2018 and successfully submitted its recommendations to the Office of the Senate President thereafter.

Thematic areas covered by the Committee included constitutional and legal issues, resource distribution and decentralisation, and recommendations from previous police reform committees.

The Committee Members were selected for their expertise in the field of police reform as well as legal, constitutional and security matters. The Committee Members were:

  7. Kemi Okenyedo, Partners West Africa/ NPP
  8. Dr. Abubakar Mu’azu, Borno Coalition for Democracy and Progress (BOCODEP)
  9. Dr. Uju Agomoh, PRAWA
  10. Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, OSJI
  11. Innocent Chukwuma, Ford Foundation
