PLAC organised a technical session to design/ draft Proposal on Temporary Special Measures. The aim of the technical session was to develop draft legislative proposals to incorporate special measures for the advancement of women in the political space in Nigeria’s legal framework. It also aimed to produce a working document that can be used as an advocacy tool by CSOs and groups advocating for increased women’s political representation. The technical session took place between 28 and 29 October 2019 in Abuja. The drafters comprised of a small and select group of academic and legal experts on gender, election and constitution reform. At the end of the technical session 3 different bills (with 12 differently worded versions) were developed that was disseminated to stakeholders in a publication titled “Legislative Proposals on Affirmative Action for Women” which highlighted the pros and cons of each proposed bill as well as possible entry points for stakeholders wishing to adopt and push for any of the legislations.
