The Senate at its plenary session on Wednesday, 7 February 2024, passed a resolution to reschedule its interactive session with security service chiefs to ensure maximum participation and engagement from all relevant security and intelligence agencies.
The President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio explained that recent security incidents across the country required comprehensive discussions on national security issues. Although he acknowledged the presence of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-General Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Director General, State Security Service Yusuf Magaji Bichi; and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, the President of the Senate stated that the appearance of all security service and intelligence chiefs, and the heads of security agencies will provide lawmakers with the opportunity to directly question them about their agencies’ actions, strategies, and performance in fulfilling their security mandates.
In this regard, the Senate passed a resolution also inviting the National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle; Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Geidam; Minister of State Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Director General National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Abubakar; and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Mr. Wale Edu.
According to the President of the Senate, the interactive session with the aforementioned Ministers and the heads of security and intelligence agencies will take place at the Senate’s plenary session of Tuesday, 13 February 2024.
