Senate Resumes Screening Of Ministerial Nominees

The Senate continued the screening of the Ministerial nominees at its plenary session of Thursday, 25 July 2019. During the session, the Senate screened fourteen ( 14)  nominees for appointment as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria namely; Sen. Omotayo Alasoadura (Ondo); Mr. Mustapha Baba Shehuri (Borno); Mr. Abubakar D. Aliyu (Yobe); Major General (Rtd) Bashir S. Magashi (Kano); Mr. Timipre Sylva (Bayelsa); Mrs. Ramatu Tijani (Kogi); Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo (Ekiti); Amb. Zubairu Dada (Niger); Sen. Chris Ngige (Anambra); Mr. Mohammed H.Abdullahi (Nasarawa); Mr. Sunday Dare (Oyo); Mr. Mohammed Musa Bello (Adamawa); Mrs. Sadiya Umar Faruk (Zamfara); and Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed (Kaduna).

 

Lawmakers also requested some nominees to respond to questions and comments. For instance, Major General Magashi responded to issues that bordered on security challenges across the country while Amb. Dada focused on measures to restructure key agencies and department. Other questions directed at nominees focused on women inclusion, participation, implementation, monitoring of projects, unemployment, job creation, the role of ICT in addressing security challenges, cybercrimes and broadband penetration among others.

 

Most of the afore-mentioned nominees had held offices and served in various capacities in the public and private sector.
