Senate To Establish A National Assembly Legislative Museum And Archives

Thee Senate at its plenary session of Tuesday, 13 February 2018, resolved to establish a National Assembly Legislative Museum and Archives aimed at ensuring continuity and preservation of legislative heritage in Nigeria.

This followed a motion titled “The need for the establishment of a National Assembly Legislative Museum and Archives” where Sen. Matthew Urhoghide (PDP: Edo) expressed dismay over the poor documentation of the history of the Nigerian Legislature due to long years of military rule. He stated that the establishment of the legislative museum and archive would go a long way in preserving the events of the National Assembly particularly in the areas of oversight performance.

Sen. Urhoghide informed the Senate that the mandate of the Legislative Museum and Archives would be under the supervision of the Joint Committee on Culture and Tourism, constituted by both Houses. He noted that the establishment of a Legislative Museum and Archiving system would serve as a source of revenue generation for the National Assembly.
