The House of Representatives has set up a Special Committee on Security as part of its efforts to contribute to measures put in place by the executive to address the incessant cases of insecurity across parts of the country.
The resolution of the House of Representatives to set up the Committee emerged from deliberations at a closed-door session of Members which held on Wednesday, 17 March 2021. Although details from the session remain undisclosed, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (APC: Lagos) has stated that the Special Committee will be responsible for developing a proposal on ways to address security problems in Nigeria.
The Special Committee comprises of the Principal Officers and 30 other lawmakers namely; Hon. Usman Ahmed Jaha (APC; Borno), Hon. Bamidele Salam (PDP: Osun), Hon. Sada Soli (APC: Katsina), Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar (APC: Sokoto), Hon. Munir Baba Danagundi (APC: Kano), Hon. Julius Ihovbere (APC; Edo), Hon. Babajimi Benson (APC: Lagos), Hon. Muhammad Garba Datti (APC: Lagos), Hon. Iduma Enwo Igariwey (PDP: Ebonyi), Hon. Jerry Alagbaoso (PDP: Imo), Hon. Kingsley Uju Chima (AA:Imo), Hon. Lawan Shettima Ali (APC:Yobe), Hon. James Faleke (APC: Lagos).
Other Members of the Special Committee include Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu (PDP: Anambra), Hon. Satomi Ahmad (APC: Borno), Hon. Alhassan Kabiru Rurum (APC:Kano), Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata (APC:Jigawa), Hon. Balarabe Shehu (APC: Kaduna), Hon. Shehu Ahmed Danfulani (PDP: Zamfara), Hon. Asuku Bello (APC: Kogi), Hon. Oluwole Oke (PDP: Osun), Hon. Aliyu Betara Muktar (APC: Borno), Hon. Obinna Chidoka (PDP: Anambra), Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba (APC: Nasarawa), Hon. Kingsley Chinda (PDP: Rivers), Hon. Victor Nwokolo (PDP: Delta), Hon. Dandutse Muntari (APC: Katsina) Hon. Patrick Asadu (PDP: Enugu), Hon. Sulaiman Gumi (PDP: Zamfara), Hon. Bello Usman Kumo (APC: Gombe), Hon. Usman Danjuma Shiddi (Taraba) and Hon. Nasiru Zagon Daura (APC: Katsina)
According to Hon. Gbajabiamila, the Special Committee is expected to present its report and recommendation to the President, Muhammadu Buhari for implementation.
