The Senate at its plenary session of Wednesday, May 3rd 2017 confirmed the nomination of Professor Steven Ikani Ocheni (Kogi State) and Mr. Suleiman Hassan (Gombe State) as Ministers of the Federation.
During the screening, Prof. Ocheni informed Members that the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan recently launched by President Muhammadu Buhari would boost local revenue generation, restore financial liability and improve the nation exploration capacity including local refineries. Prof. Ocheni is likely to replace late Minister James Enojo Ocholi as Minister of State of Labour. Mr. Suleiman Hassan delivered a concise presentation detailing his biography and career accomplishments in prior positions held. However, since Mr. Hassan has now been confirmed as Minister, it is likely that his other nomination as a non-career ambassador will be substituted with another candidate.
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu in letter dated March 28th, 2017, and read on the floor of the Chambers had requested that the Senate approves the confirmation of the said nominees as Ministers
