House Rejects Introducing Police Vehicle Verification Code Stickers

The House of Representatives at its plenary session of Tuesday, December 6 2016, voted against a motion proposing the urgent introduction of Police Vehicle Verification Code Stickers (PVVCS) to tackle security Challenges in the country.

Enumerating on the advantages of the PVVCS in the lead debate, Hon. E.J Agbonayinma (PDP: Edo) mentioned that the PVVCS would enhance the ability of the Nigerian Police to promptly respond to cases of stolen vehicles through its use of a vehicle verification system that facilitates the synchronization and exchange of data between the Police and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). According to him, the PVVCS would enable easy identification in cases of carjacking, robbery or kidnapping.

Hon. Agbonayinma also expressed concern about the alarming state of insecurity in the country and urged the House to mandate its Committee on Police Affairs to interface with the Nigerian Police Force with a view to compel the use of PVVCS on every vehicle registered in Nigeria in order to reduce the incidence of car theft and related crimes. Hon. Agbonayinma also proposed that the Committee report back within six (6) weeks for further legislative action.

However, the motion was rejected after the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara (APC: Bauchi) put it to a voice vote.
