President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the 2017-2019 MTEF and FSP to the House of Representatives. In his letter which was read by the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara (APC: Bauchi) at the plenary session of October 4th 2016, the President stated that his submissions were in compliance with the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007 which provides for the submission of the MTEF and FSP to the House of Representatives for consideration ahead of the 2017 Budget presentation.
According to the President’s letter, the MTEF and FSP which articulates the Federal Government’s economic, social and developmental objectives as well as the strategies for achieving these defined objectives, was designed against the backdrop of a generally adverse global economic environment and also the fiscal challenges in the economy.
The President expressed his appreciation towards the continued commitment and support of the Honorable members with respect to the preparation, passage and implementation of the Federal Budget and urged members to expeditiously approve the 2017-2019 MTEF and FSP so as to move the 2017 Federal Budget preparation process forward.
