The House of Representatives has passed for second reading the Budget Proposals of 38 Corporations and Agencies of the Federal Government. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (APC: Lagos) leading the debate at the House plenary session of 21st July 2016 commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari stating that this would be the first time the budget of these Corporations and Agencies are presented before the Legislature since the advent of democracy in Nigeria. During the debate, Hon. Gbajabiamila while urging Members to ensure that these Appropriations are efficiently and effectively considered said these Corporations and Agencies had adopted the Zero-Based Budgeting system.
It would be recalled that the Budget Proposal of these Parastatals were submitted to the House of Representatives on 14th July 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari. In his letter which was read by the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara (APC: Bauchi), the President stated that his submissions were in line with the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007 which provides for the submission of the Budget proposal of the under listed agencies to the National Assembly.
