The Senate has cautioned the media against misrepresentation of facts in its news reportage. Sen. Dino Melaye (APC:Kogi) drew the attention of the chambers to a front page headline of a media house that allegedly misrepresented the Northern Senators Forum resolutions at its meeting which held on Wednesday, 4th May 2016 in Abuja.
Raising the point of order on behalf of all Northern Senators at the Senate plenary of Thursday, 5th May, 2016, Sen. Melaye described the media report that the Forum had issued a warning to some Governors, leaders and community heads in the country to desist from making inflammatory statements that could further overheat the polity as a result of the Fulani herdsmen attack on some Enugu indigenes as “inflammatory” and in contrast with the Forum’s decision. The Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki (APC:Kwara) also called on the media to carry out investigative journalism.
After the discussions on the point of order raised, the Senate adjourned plenary to 12th May, 2016 to enable PDP senators attend their party’s congress.
