The 2026 PLAC Legislative Internship Programme continued its institutional engagement activities with a visit to the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, where interns met with the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot.
The visit provided interns with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and the European Union and the role of international cooperation in supporting democratic governance, humanitarian assistance and inclusive development.
Through direct engagement with the Ambassador, the interns gained valuable insights into the European Union’s engagement with Nigeria and the importance of sustained collaboration in addressing governance and development challenges.
The interactive session also enabled the interns to engage on a range of public policy issues that continue to shape Nigeria’s development agenda.
Discussions covered trade and investment, disability inclusion, healthcare financing, women’s political participation and opportunities for young people, reflecting the broad policy interests that increasingly inform legislative decision-making.
By exposing participants to perspectives from development partners, the Legislative Internship Programme continues to complement classroom learning with practical engagement.
Such interactions broaden participants’ appreciation of the relationship between legislative institutions, public policy and international cooperation, while reinforcing the importance of dialogue in addressing complex governance challenges.
