The Senate at its plenary session of Thursday, 26\nSeptember 2019 approved and adopted its Legislative Agenda as efforts to\nstrengthen parliamentary roles and practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the deliberation, lawmakers unanimously\ncommended the effort of the Ad-hoc Committee for developing a Legislative\nAgenda, noting that the sectoral interventions highlighted in the Agenda will\npromote effective engagement with the Executive, promote transparency and\naccountability, and serve as an effective legislative guide to the 9th<\/sup>\nSenate for the next 4 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Presiding over the session, President of the Senate,\nSen. Ahmad Lawan (APC: Yobe) stated that the adoption of the Legislative Agenda\nof the 9th<\/sup> Senate will increase the legislative interventions of its\nCommittees; ensure that the submission of sessional reports by committees are\nre-introduced and promote engagements with the Heads of Ministries, Departments\nand Agencies (MDAs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sen. Lawan mentioned that the 9th<\/sup> Senate\nwill focus on reforms in critical sectors that include reviewing the Universal\nBasic Education Act; amendments to the Electoral Act; and implementing initiatives\nthat improve the quality of healthcare services in Nigeria.
