Adamu Aliero (APC: Kebbi) described the\nLegislative Agenda as a strategic framework that aims to strengthen the\ninternal operations and processes of the Senate in carrying out its constitutional\nduties of legislation, oversight and representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Aliero also informed\nlawmakers that the Legislative Agenda contained legislative reforms aimed at\nimproving Senate\u2019s performance and effective engagement with other arms of\ngovernment to achieve robust legislative interventions, institutional reforms\nand national development.&nbsp; The lawmaker further\nstated its highlights as including the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Institutional\nNeeds Assessment;<\/li><li>Review of the\nExisting Standing Rules, 2015 as amended;<\/li><li>Transparency and Accountability;<\/li><li>Capacity\nEnhancement;<\/li><li>Law making;<\/li><li>National and\nSub-national Initiatives;<\/li><li>Sectoral Reforms\nand Interventions;<\/li><li>Economic Growth:\nDiversification;<\/li><li>Revenue, Budget\nand Appropriation;<\/li><li>Communication\nStrategies and Civic Engagement;<\/li><li>Internal and\nExternal Relations; and<\/li><li>Implementation:\nMonitoring and Evaluation<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In conclusion,\nSen. Aliero explained that the Committee had carried out series of\nconsultations with critical stakeholders comprising of Civil Society\nOrganizations, Development Partners, Professional bodies etc. during the\ndevelopment of the Legislative Agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senate has\ngiven a day extension for the adopting of its Legislative Agenda to avail\nlawmakers with more time to study the proposal and make contributions at its\nnext plenary on Thursday, 26September 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;It would be recalled that the Senate had on\nTuesday, 2 July 2019 constituted an Ad-hoc Committee charged with the mandate\nof developing a comprehensive Legislative Agenda that aligned with its\nconstitutional roles. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ad-hoc Committee on the Legislative Agenda of the 9th Senate has presented its report for consideration and adoption.
