The Senate at its plenary session of Wednesday, 2 August 2023 concluded the confirmation hearing for 28 persons nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be appointed as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The nominees who appeared before the Senate were as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. H.E Nyesom Wike \u2013 Rivers State<\/li>
  3. H.E Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai \u2013 Kaduna State<\/li>
  4. H.E Badaru Abubakar (CON) \u2013 Jigawa State<\/li>
  5. Sen. Abubakar Kyari \u2013 Borno State<\/li>
  6. Sen. John Enoh \u2013 Cross River State<\/li>
  7. Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha \u2013 Abia State<\/li>
  8. Hon. Olunbunmi Tunji-Ojo \u2013 Ondo State<\/li>
  9. Hon. Stella Oketete \u2013 Delta State<\/li>
  10. Hon. Uju Kennedy Ohaneye \u2013 Anambra State<\/li>
  11. Chief Uche Nnaji \u2013 Enugu State<\/li>
  12. Arch. Ahmad Dangiwa \u2013 Katsina State<\/li>

    The purpose of the confirmation hearing which commenced in the Senate on Monday, 31 July 2023 was to allow lawmakers assess the qualifications, experiences, leadership abilities, personal background, and suitability of the nominees. At the hearing, most of the nominees provided responses to a wide range of questions that bordered on the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Their views on specific policy issues related to healthcare, education, national security, gender, economic development, etc.;<\/li>
    2. Judicial reforms and legal interpretation of the Constitution;<\/li>
    3. Their professional records and achievements;<\/li>
    4. Their abilities to collaborate effectively with the legislature and other agencies of government; and<\/li>
    5. e. Their vision and priorities for the country.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The confirmation hearing of a few of the nominees were relatively straight forward because they were not subjected to extensive questioning by lawmakers due to the level of their political qualifications and background which the Senators felt were well-known and widely accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Although the confirmation hearing of the nominees has been concluded, the Senate is yet to hold a confirmation vote to formally approve or reject their nomination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
