The House of Representatives on Wednesday 15 May 2019 passed the Police Trust Fund Bill.<\/p>\n
It will be recalled that the House had reconsidered and adopted the report of the Police Trust Fund (Establishment) Bill on Tuesday 14th May 2019 after an earlier decision to rescind some clauses and commit the Bill to the Committee of the Whole following observations from the Directorate of Legal Services.<\/p>\n
Some of the reconsidered clauses include:<\/p>\n
Clause 1.6(2) which now states that \u201cMembers of the Board shall be paid such allowances as may be determined by the Board in consultation with the National Revenue, Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission\u201d. This is against the earlier draft that provided for the Board\u2019s remuneration from the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission.<\/p>\n
A Clause 2.8(5) was also inserted stating that \u201cThe provisions of the Schedule of this Act shall have effect with respect to the meetings and proceedings of the Board and other matters mentioned in the Schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n
The purpose of the Bill is to establish a Police Trust Fund Act that will among other things provide funds for the training and retraining of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, provide equipment and machineries to improve the general welfare of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and enhance their preparedness to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibility of protecting life and property of the people of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
