Aisha\nAhmed Dahiru (APC: Adamawa) seeks to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Provide for the prudent management of national\nresources;<\/li><li>Ensure economic stability;<\/li><li>Promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria\u2019s\nfiscal operations; and<\/li><li>Establish a Fiscal Responsibility Commission<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading the\ndebate on the Bill, Sen. Dahiru informed lawmakers that the Bill was intended to\ncurb financial fraud and wastages within Ministries, Departments and Agencies\n(MDAs) to ensure more effective and efficient delivery of public services. She\nalso noted that the administrative functions of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission\n(FRC) were limited due to the absence of a legal framework to back its\noperations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Dahiru\nmentioned that the Bill, if passed, will expand the functions and powers of the\nFRC; ensure adequate funding\/increased budgetary allocations to the Commission;\nensure the remittance of operating surplus by MDAs; ensure enforcement of\npenalties and establish the Fiscal Responsibility Council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bill which\nwas unanimously adopted by lawmakers has been referred to the Committee on\nFinance for further legislative scrutiny.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate at its plenary session on Thursday, 6 February 2020 passed a Bill seeking to repeal and re-enact the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007 for second reading. &nbsp;The Bill which is sponsored by Sen.
