The House at its plenary session of April 14th 2016, has called on the Federal Government to intensify its effort in the search and rescue of the219 abducted Chibok girls’ of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok Borno State who were abducted by Boko Haram insurgent exactly two years ago.<\/p>\n
Moving the motion, under matters of urgent public importance, Hon. Asabe Vilita (APC: Borno) commended the efforts of the Military in the fight against the Boko Haram Insurgent and the resilience of the \u201cBring Back Our Girls Group\u201d who had effortlessly campaigned for the rescue of the abducted girls. Hon. Asabe also expressed worries over the safety of the girls who were likely to have been subject to untold hardship starvation, rape, forceful marriage, emotional and psychological trauma. She also disclosed that since the abduction of the Chibok girls, seventeen (17) parents of the girls had died.<\/p>\n
Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Nnenna Ukeje (PDP: Abia) described the abduction as a \u201cnational embarrassment\u201d stating that it was unfortunate that the girls had not been found two years after they were abducted. \u00a0In addition, Hon. Ukeje emphasized the need of strengthening the capacities of agencies responsible in fighting Boko Haram insurgents and urged the House to lend its support to the nation in searching for the girls. Summarizing some lawmaker\u2019s views, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara (APC: Bauchi) also spoke on the importance of setting a target for the search of the girls to ensure their matter was prioritized and called on the parents of the abducted girls to keep their hopes alive.<\/p>\n
