A Strategy and Capacity Building Retreat Session of the 10th<\/sup> House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions<\/strong> took place at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja on 27th<\/sup> and 28th<\/sup> October 2023.The retreat was organized by PLAC with support from the European Union (EU)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants at the retreat include: Honourable Members of the Committee, the Committee secretariat including the Clerk, Deputy Clerk, Head of Administration and other support staff from the National Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first day of the retreat, presentations delivered include \u2018An Overview of the role of the public petitions committee in addressing citizens\u2019 grievances and complaints<\/strong><\/em>\u2019 by Prof. (Hon) Jerry Ugokwe, Professor of Governance and Legislative Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and a Former Member, House of Representatives; and \u2018Examining the role of the Public Complaints Commission vis-\u00e0-vis the Public Petitions Committee <\/strong><\/em> by Hon. Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf, Honourable Chief Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission and  \u2018Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms as a tool for Resolving Public Petitions and Complaints<\/strong><\/em>\u2019 by Dr. Agada John Elachi, FICMC, FCIArb (UK),President, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the second day of the retreat, other presentations made include, \u2018Strategic\/Work Plan Development for the Committee in the 10th<\/sup> Assembly\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, Dr. Aminu Umar, Legislative Expert and Director at National Open University of Nigeria,\u00a0 \u00a0\u2018Strategies for visibility and Public Awareness of the Committees\u2019 Mechanism<\/strong><\/em>\u2019 by Mr. Gbenga Aruleba, Chief News Producer, Host Focus Nigeria on AIT and Experiences, Lessons Learnt and Best Practices in Managing Public Petitions Committees<\/em><\/strong> by Michael Egwu, Retd\/Former Clerk, House Committee on Public Petitions (2011 – 2017).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
