{"id":4191,"date":"2026-07-09T14:14:44","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T14:14:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placng.org\/Legist\/?p=4191"},"modified":"2026-07-09T14:14:44","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T14:14:44","slug":"plac-organises-civil-society-roundtable-on-the-proposed-womens-special-seats-bill-strengthening-advocacy-ahead-of-legislative-voting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placng.org\/Legist\/plac-organises-civil-society-roundtable-on-the-proposed-womens-special-seats-bill-strengthening-advocacy-ahead-of-legislative-voting\/","title":{"rendered":"PLAC Organises Civil Society Roundtable on the Proposed Women\u2019s Special Seats Bill: Strengthening Advocacy Ahead of Legislative Voting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As Nigeria\u2019s constitutional reform process advances, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), with support from the European Union, organised a<strong>\u00a0Civil Society Roundtable on the proposed Women\u2019s Special Seats Bil<\/strong><strong>l, \u00a0<\/strong>on Thursday, 9<sup>th<\/sup> July 2026 to strengthen advocacy for increased women\u2019s representation in elective office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The roundtable therefore, provided a platform for civil society actors, women\u2019s rights advocates, governance stakeholders and development partners to review recent developments around the Bill, consider <strong>emerging proposals on the design and implementation <\/strong>of the additional seats,&nbsp;and agree on strategic advocacy priorities ahead of legislative voting and broader public engagement during Open Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants also reflected on the implications of the proposed Electoral College Model and identify areas requiring clarification, improvement and coordinated civil society engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the pending legislative voting on constitutional amendment bills and the National Assembly Open Week, scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 14<sup>th<\/sup> July 2026.
