The retreat which held at the Abuja Continental Hotel from the 6<sup>th<\/sup>\nof February to the 9<sup>th<\/sup> of February 2025, allowed the consultants\nscrutinize and provide expert recommendations which will be instrumental in\nguiding the Senate Committee on Constitution Review deliberations and adoption\nof the Constitution alteration bills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following\nthe retreat during which\nthe consultants worked in specialized sub-committees bases on thematic areas,\nthe Judiciary Sub-Committee was assigned the responsibility of reviewing\nproposed amendments related to judicial reforms. Recognizing the need for\nbroader stakeholder engagement, the sub-committee convened a follow-up\nconsultative meeting with key judicial stakeholders to refine proposals and\nincorporate expert insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting was a convening of\nconsultants of the judiciary sub-committee, representatives from the Federal\nMinistry of Justice, National Judicial Council (NJC), Magistrates Association\nof Nigeria (MAN), Association of Area Court Judges (AACJ), and the Association\nof Judges of the Customary Courts in Nigeria (AJUCCON) seeking to engage the\nNJC on areas of disagreement regarding proposed judicial amendments and further\nclarify the legal and constitutional implications of the proposed reforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) in collaboration with the Senate Committee on Constitution Review convened a 2-day retreat for the secretariat and consultants of the committee with the support of the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
