The retreat was supported by Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the retreat, the Committee\nmembers focused on specific areas for the review of the Constitution as\nfollows: State police, local government autonomy, gender inclusion, judicial\nreform, electoral reform and restructuring\/devolution of powers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The retreat was to drive forward\ndiscussions on Constitution alteration bills that failed to pass in previous\nAssemblies and consider Constitution review proposals contained in memoranda\nreceived from the public, to inform the drafting of bills that will be\npresented to the Senate in the current Constitution review exercise. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A retreat of the members of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution held on 27th and 28th September 2024, in Kano State.
