President Bola Tinubu nominated 10 persons for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), among several nominations he has made within the past month for various government establishments. President Tinubu wrote to the Senate requesting confirmation of the following persons: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Etekamba Umoren \u2014 Akwa Ibom State
2. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne \u2014 Edo State
3. Oluwatoyin Babalola \u2014 Ekiti State
4. Abubakar Ahmed Ma\u2019aji \u2014 Gombe State\u00a0
5. Shehu Wahab \u2014 Kwara State
6. Bunmi Omoseyindemi \u2014 Lagos State
7. Aminu Kasimu Idris \u2014 Nasarawa State
8. Mohammed Yelwa \u2014 Niger State
9. Anugbum Onuoha \u2014 Rivers State
10. Isma\u2019ila Kaura Moyi \u2014 Zamfara State<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only one of\nthe 10 nominees is a woman. On Thursday, November 2, the Senate screened 7 out\nof the 10 nominees and then went on to screen the other three nominees at its\nemergency session on Monday, November 6. Following the screening of all 10\nnominees, the Senate confirmed all the nominees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There has\nbeen concern and criticism regarding some of the nominations, with fears\nexpressed that they may be tainted with partisan leanings. It continues to be a\nchallenge the mode of appointment of election officials in Nigeria.
