In a letter read at the Senate plenary on Wednesday, 23rd<\/sup> November 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari sought the confirmation of the Senate for the appointment of  his Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board. The full list of the NDDC Board as announced by President Buhari includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Lauretta Onochie \u2013 Chairman <\/li>
  2. Samuel Ogbuku \u2013 Managing Director <\/li>
  3. Charles Ehigie Airhiavbere \u2013 Director of Finance<\/li>
  4. Charles Ogunmola \u2013 Director of Project<\/li>
  5. Dimgba Erugba \u2013 Abia <\/li>
  6. Ene Wilcos Wills \u2013 Akwa Ibom <\/li>
  7. Dimaro Denyanbofa – Bayelsa<\/li>
  8. Orok Duke – Cross River<\/li>
  9. Pius Odudu \u2013 Edo <\/li>
  10. Gbenga Edema \u2013 Ondo <\/li>
  11. Anthony Okanne \u2013 Imo <\/li>
  12. Elekwachi Dinkpa \u2013 Rivers <\/li>
  13. Mohammed Kabiru Abubakar \u2013 North Central <\/li>
  14. Tahir Mamman \u2013 Adamawa \u2013 North East <\/li>
  15. Sadeeq Sami \u2013 North West <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The NDDC has been without a Board for almost\nfour years. There have been calls for the inauguration of a board for the\nCommission by various groups in the Niger Delta region. In October 2019,\nPresident Buhari sent a list of nominees to be appointed as Chairman and\nmembers of the Board of the Commission, to the Senate which screened the\nnominees and confirmed their appointments in November 2019. However, their\ninauguration was put on hold pending the completion of the forensic audit\nreport of the Commission, which was ordered following allegations of\nmismanagement in the Commission. In August 2021, former Minister of the Niger\nDelta Ministry, Senator Godswill Akpabio stated that the President would\ninaugurate the Board after receipt of the forensic audit report. However, the\nBoard was still not inaugurated after the report was submitted to the President\nin September 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    While some groups in the region called for\na new set of nominees to be presented to the Senate for confirmation, others\ncalled for the inauguration of  the\nprevious nominees who were screened and confirmed by the Senate in 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    President Buhari also transmitted the\n2021, 2022 and 2023 budgets of the NDDC to the National Assembly on  23rd<\/sup> November 2022. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
