{"id":2225,"date":"2021-08-06T14:39:55","date_gmt":"2021-08-06T14:39:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placng.org\/Legist\/?p=2225"},"modified":"2021-08-06T15:54:29","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T15:54:29","slug":"dss-fails-to-produce-nnamdi-kanu-for-his-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placng.org\/Legist\/dss-fails-to-produce-nnamdi-kanu-for-his-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"DSS Fails to Produce Nnamdi Kanu for his Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nnamdi Kanu, the self-proclaimed\u00a0\u00a0 leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who was forcefully returned to Nigeria in unclear circumstances by security services, has had his trial resume at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Kanu is charged for treason among other offences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When his matter resumed on July 26, the Department of State Services (DSS) who had held him in their custody since his forceful return to Nigeria, failed to produce him in court. This forced presiding Judge Binta Nyako to adjourn the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The real reason for the DSS\u2019s\nfailure to produce him is unclear even though they had cited logistical\nreasons. His lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, raised concern in the court that the DSS\nhad frustrated his visit to his client in custody, stating that this has hindered\nhis ability to prepare adequately for his defense. In interviews given in the\nmedia, Ejiofor had indicated that he would raise objections to the entire trial\nprocess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government made elaborate effort to forcefully return Kanu to the\ncountry to face prosecution, therefore, it is curious as to why they are\ndelaying his prosecution.
