The National Assembly Service Commission on Friday, July 17 announced several appointments, including that of an Acting Clerk of the National Assembly, Olatunde Ojo to replace Mohammed Sani-Omolori. Other appointments include Bala Mohammed as Acting Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Dauda el-Ladan as Acting Clerk of the Senate, Patrick Giwa to remain as Clerk of the House of Representatives until his retirement in November 2020 and Yusuf Danbatta as Acting Secretary to the National Assembly Service Commission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, July 15, the Chairman of\nthe Commission had announced the retirement of the former Clerk of the National\nAssembly, Sani-Omolori and other staff of the National Assembly who are due for\nretirement, as they have either been in the civil service for up to 35 years or\nhave attained the age of 60 years. Sani-Omolori, who was due to retire in\nFebruary 2020, dismissed the announcement in a statement, where he insisted\nthat the Commission had no power to do\nso, since the 8th<\/sup> Assembly had revised the conditions of service for\nNational Assembly staff, pegging retirement at 40 years of service or 65 years\nof age, whichever comes first. The purported revision was done by a motion in\nthe two chambers of the National Assembly. The National Assembly Service\nCommission responded with a query to the former Clerk for insubordination, even\nas security operatives were said to have sealed off the office of the Clerk of\nthe National Assembly.
