{"id":1025,"date":"2019-04-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/placng.org\/Legist\/senate-committee-to-probe-inec-over-inconsistent-application-of-electoral-laws\/"},"modified":"2020-01-09T02:38:27","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T02:38:27","slug":"senate-committee-to-probe-inec-over-inconsistent-application-of-electoral-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placng.org\/Legist\/senate-committee-to-probe-inec-over-inconsistent-application-of-electoral-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Committee to Probe INEC over Inconsistent Application of Electoral Laws"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate has directed its Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate Nigeria\u2019s electoral management body after some lawmakers accused the INEC of inconsistent application of the electoral law and for displaying a lack of neutrality in the conduct of the 2019 General elections.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate resolution will mean that both chambers of the National Assembly may be investigating how INEC conducted its affairs in the 2019 elections as the House of Representatives also promised to address observations from the elections after its Members called for Constitution and Electoral law reforms.<\/p>\n<p>The 8<sup>th<\/sup> Assembly has severally pushed for electoral reform. However, President Buhari declined its passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2018 on four separate occasions last year.
