On the 28th and 29th of April 2025, The National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held a retreat on “Emergent Issues in the Electoral Legal Framework since the 2023 General Elections.”
The retreat was supported by Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and Development Alternatives Inc. (DAI). At the retreat, various deliberations highlighted the importance of electoral reforms to restore trust in institutions and lay a solid foundation for the successful conduct of the 2027 general elections.
Present at the event was the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Sen. Abdulaziz M. Yar’adua (representing the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Sharafadeen Alli); Chairman, House Committee on Electoral Matters, Hon. Adebayo Balogun; Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; Executive Director, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), Mr. Clement Nwankwo, members of the Senate and House Committees on Electoral Matters and other stakeholders.
