On Tuesday, 4th October 2022, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) commenced orientation for 38 youths selected from the 36 States of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to participate in its 2022 Legislative Internship programme, in Abuja. The 10-week internship programme is being implemented with support from the European Union in Nigeria. Speaking at the event, Programme Manager, EU in Nigeria, Laolu Olawunmi enjoined the interns to deepen their knowledge and understanding of legislative issues and also enrich their experience by learning from one another. She reiterated the EU’s interest and commitment to working with young people.
The three-day orientation started off with a welcome dinner and on the subsequent days, the interns participated in several sessions in which they interacted with experts on the structure, operations and legislative processes of the National Assembly, as well as youth participation in governance and democracy. This is to equip them with essential knowledge and skills ahead of their deployment to committees and departments in the National Assembly, where they will be experiencing the activities of Nigeria’s federal legislature first-hand.
This is the 9th edition of the PLAC’s Legislative internship, which took off in 2014.
