Nigeria’s political atmosphere is presently permeated with the furore by political parties getting set to conduct primaries ahead of the upcoming 2023 general elections. As political actors ready themselves, civil society organisations and concerned Nigerians have also intensified calls for citizens to prepare to participate in the elections by registering as voters with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and collecting their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs). This is in the light of growing voter apathy and diminishing voter turnout in Nigeria’s elections, especially in recent times. Elections are an integral feature of democracy and serve as a platform for citizens’ political participation, as they have the opportunity to choose their leaders and vote out leaders who do not perform well.
